have to make a decision about Remicade

I have had Crohn's disease for at least 14 yrs. The doctors originally did not put me on any medications at that time. Now, I am having severely active Crohn's to the point of being debilitating. My doc wants to put me on Remicade. I am aware of some of the side effects, but I want to know what I might expect from the actual infusion. Will it make me sick? Will it hurt more than a normal IV? I really don't want to lose my job from losing to many days from being sick from a med I might need.
Can anyone share their experience with starting Remicade and what it feels like and the immediate effects of the infusion?

I am suprised your doctor waited to put you on medicine I assume before putting you on Remicade he has tried options such as other meds (prednisone, 6MP, Salofalk).

Reagarding your quesiton, I have been on Remicade for 9 months (7 infusions). I have had no issues with the infusions themselves. The IV hurts momentairly but then is fine. During the infusion you do not feel anything, and most people does after an hour because of the effect of the Benadryl. If other options, have not worked, and Remicade is the last option, do not worry about the infusion process. A chrons relapse is much worse. Please check the Remicade website for possible side effects of the drug itself.

I have had 6 treatments now. Besides the beginning pain of starting an IV, you don't actually feel the procedure. I am hooked up to a blood pressure machine that checks my pressure every 15 minutes. They begin by giving me Benadryl, and it hits me pretty hard. I feel like I'm flying and get giggles lol. Then I am out like a light. My treatments take between two and four hours. After my treatment I go home and sleep for quite a few hours because of the Benadryl. The first few days after the treatment, I usually feel like I'm catching a cold...sore throat, sinus drainage, and body aches. Those feelings go away after about a week. The biggest downside is I am completely exhausted all the time.
